So, when Fay Nyberg and I became aware of the date of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – organised by Macmillian Cancer Care – this meant only one thing. Everyone knows that during a coffee morning, it’s not the coffee that’s important – it’s the mid-morning slice of heaven that goes with it that really gets everyone talking. And, everyone also knows that if you’re eating cake for charity, the calories don’t count!
So, helped by a motley crew of eager bakers, Bloom Bakery was officially declared open last Friday. Sporting a mixture of treats ranging from Foz’s savoury pistachio, goats cheese and prune cake, to fantastic Crunchie and Rolo topped chocolate cupcakes (you can follow Fay’s recipe to recreate those beauties here), to sausage rolls, banoffee pie, and just about everything in between. It was truly a sight to behold. Tucking in for charity, we managed to raise a wonderful ÂŁ100 for Macmillan – enough to provide support for a family with cancer for four hours. And, even more impressively – the event has raised a magnificent ÂŁ3,020,410 so far across the UK.
A big thanks to all those Bloomers – and clients – who baked and ate for charity. How wonderful to be part of a cake-focused event that will go so far in supporting such a brilliant cause!
