Ebuyer approached us to increase their Google ranking position across a number of key phrases, to drive significant traffic to the website and increase revenue.
At Bloom, we believe that SEO and Social Media are intrinsically linked. That’s why we focused on real time link building with the Ebuyer blog placed at the heart of the SSE strategy.
To begin with, our tech-bods conducted an initial audit of the site and recommend over 100 changes to the site structure, as well as adding social bookmarks. We also asked Ebuyer to provide us with forward notice of upcoming products, meaning that we could create content and build links for products that were not yet on the market. This allowed us to secure top rankings before any competitors had even started optimising for similar target terms!
We also engaged with the tech and gadget-loving community by creating an innovative social media and online/offline PR based campaign.
- UK’s geekiest city – Our insight team noticed that there was a key discussion happening around geeky cities in the USA, so we created an Ebuyer infographic illustrating the geekiest cities in the UK! Launched on the ebuyer.com website, bloggers could also imbed a version on their own site, which created hundreds of links to Ebuyer.
- Gamers’ Rig Competition – In association with Nvidia, we ran a competition targeting PC gaming enthusiasts. By linking a blog article to ebuyer.com, they could enter a draw to win the latest Nvidia graphics card for their PC.
- Treat Your Geek – A Facebook competition where entrants could create a wishlist from the ebuyer.com catalogue and stand a chance of winning £1,000 worth of goodies from Ebuyer.
We received a phenomenal amount of coverage about the UK’s geekiest city – from technology blogs, personal blogs, local (including Cambridge and Bradford) and national (including the Sun) news sites. The story went viral and received thousands of shares on Twitter, Facebook and G+. it even got shared by Stephen Fry!
The Gamers’ Rig competition generated over 100 links for the term ‘Graphics Card’ and took Ebuyer to position number one on Google.
Treat Your Geek secured hundreds of entrants and thousands of likes, gaining lots of links for Ebuyer and viral brand awareness. One enterprising entrant even secured a radio slot on their University campus to drum up votes for their entry!
Overall, we achieved tons of positive national press coverage, consistently beat larger brands to top search engine positions and built hundreds of links from high value websites. We obtained a position two ranking on the term ‘tablet PC’ before the iPad had even been launched!
We came home from the Yorkshire Digital and Technology awards clutching a sparkly Best Use of SEO prize for this project – what more can we ask for?!
