Sugar-addled junior design star seeks digital agency for fun times, mutual growth and constant supply of sweets and cake

Hi I’m Joel, I’m 22, I have floppy black hair and I get rather crazy when I eat too much sugar.

I must say this before I start: I am more used to pixels than paragraphs so I apologise if this isn’t the smooth read you were hoping for.

How did I wind up at Bloom, you ask?

It’s a good story, and it’s a story I will never forget!  A few years ago I took a BTEC ND in graphic design at Leeds College of Art. After that I mulled around for two years doing freelance work and trying to figure out where I should take my life.

The main thing I wanted to do was learn. You can never stop learning; if we did we wouldn’t have all the wonderful things that exist today. However, I didn’t want to go to university because I didn’t want to start my life in debt. At times I worried this would make it hard to establish myself in the creative industries, but other days I’d think: Why should it?I concentrated my efforts on getting the same career opportunities as university may have provided but without getting in debt. My focus was real life experience. So, I bucked up my ideas and made my first creative portfolio using the freelance work I was truly proud of. I then researched the line of work I wanted to do.  Digital has always been a massive part of my life and Bloom are the kings of all things digital, so I sent in my Portfolio hoping that maybe, just maybe, they might allow me to come and do some work with them. Ultimately I was hoping this would give me the knowledge and the confidence to start a career in the industry.

I had the most amazing response almost instantly from Creative services director Si Wilson and was asked to come in to have a chat. It went well and I was offered a great learning opportunity here at Bloom.

After about a month or two of working on some amazing projects for Bloom they offered me a full time job as a Junior Designer, a two-word title that has changed my life, and I will be forever thankful for the opportunity Bloom have given me.

Part of the brand identity here at Bloom is the mantra ‘powered by people’ and this really shows in the fact they are the best teachers and the best friends anyone can ask for.

I hope this poorly written blog post gets across how amazing it is to work towards the Digital future of our industry with the people who know it best.

To my future, to my career, and to Bloom and its Bloomers!
