There ain’t no party like a JavaScript party!

Beer, pizza, and a night of JavaScript coding! What could be more fun?

We love code. It’s our job, after all, but it’s much more than that – it’s a vocation. We code all day, and then we go home and code a bit more. Some of us wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, get out of bed, and prototype an idea for a web application that’s been haunting our dreams.

Suffice to say, for all our sins, we’re coders to the bone.

But a passion for coding will only get one so far. We’ve all got more to learn, and without the support of our peers and a little help from our friends, our growth as developers is doomed to be stunted and more than a little unfocused.

So last Monday, in the first in what will become a series of Development Team after-hour coding parties, the Bloom developers congregated and had an evening of intense JavaScript experimentation, practical coding tutorials, and beer – courtesy of our very local pub, the Cross Keys. Oh… and don’t forget the pizza – the food of champions!

With beer in one hand and a slice of pepperoni stuff crust in the other, our developers reviewed some of the latest JavaScript APIs, discussed MVVM frameworks, and studied the ins and outs of RESTful web applications. Then, fingers still greasy with the delicious delights of Domino’s, we broke off into teams, hacked together our own code, crafted our own widgets– but far more importantly, we learned from each other. We learned techniques, limitations, tactics, and the value of friendship.

It was a bit like Stand By Me, but without a dead body and more text editors.

This night was a great success, fun was had by all, and we’ll be repeating it soon. Who wants to join us next time?
