Bloom sleep out for Simon on the Streets

Bloomers Alex Morris, Rebecca Edwards, Eleanor Rider, Andrew Brown, Darren Navier and Nathan Lane normally spend their evenings snuggled up inside with a good book and a mug of cocoa (honest).

However, there must be something in the air as following on from a mammoth Bloom charity bike ride a few months ago,  this lot are feeling intrepid (or slightly mad).  That’s why, in a few short weeks, they will be swapping the comfort of their own beds for a cold, hard floor and a cardboard box or two in the heart of Leeds City Centre.

“But why?!” I hear you cry. Well, this team of slightly bonkers Bloomers have a serious cause in mind. Taking place on Thursday the 26th September, they’ll be joining an army of other willing volunteers to raise money for Simon on the Streets – an independent charity that provides invaluable front-line emotional and practical support for the homeless, or those who are at risk of becoming homeless in Leeds.

The Bloom team will also be taking part in a walk of awareness through the streets of the city during the evening. Led by ex-rough sleepers, the group will be learning why homelessness is so much more than simply having somewhere to live.

It’s estimated that over 1800 people live on the streets in Leeds – a figure that is only set to rise over the coming years.  It’s intrinsically important that organisations like Simon on the Streets are there to help people who may have slipped through the net, have drug or alcohol addictions or mental illness. The organisation also works tirelessly to change perceptions of homelessness in the city.

Bloom are exceptionally proud to support Simon on the Streets, which is why we’re asking for help to reach our fundraising target for the sponsored sleep out. Your donation could really help us smash this goal and make a real difference to people’s lives in our community.  If you want to donate, you can find our JustGiving page here.
